On a sunny day in Saint John, N.B. the Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) truck made a pit stop at Port Saint John Community Days. The carnival-like festival drew a crowd of over 6,000 people and was a fantastic day for the community.

Bouncy castles, emergency services crews, face painting and dunk tanks were just some of the highlights from the day. The Salvation Army’s EDS truck gave back to the community by handing out over 1,000 freezies to local community members.

Community response coordinator, Joel Johnston, was pleased to see the response from the crowd. “We were handing out jumbo freezies, then saw the huge line forming and decided we had to cut them in half,” said Joel.  “It was wonderful to see how many people came up to inquire about the truck and what services that The Salvation Army offers.”PSJ Commdays_5x7 for post

The EDS truck is used in the winter to primarily serve hot drinks and warm meals to those in need, but in the summer months Joel aims to be active at community events in New Brunswick. “I want to share the story of what we do with our community members and to be a known presence in Saint John,” said Joel.

If you see Joel and the EDS crew at an event, be sure to stop and say hello.
