Arms were full of Christmas toys as individuals, families and company personnel brought in toys that had been purchased for the C100 Cineplex Cinema’s Toy Drive. Santa’s sleigh, which was set-up to accept toys, was quickly filled and overflowing as toys were then carried out to the waiting PODS storage units. On Dec. 11 and 12, C100 was broadcasting live all day, as people told their stories of why they were giving this Christmas season.

“We bring a toy every year in memory of our daughter Maya, who passed away when she was 36 days old. This is our third year dropping off a gift,” says Kelly.

Many businesses came in with toys that had been purchased with funds from casual days, company office parties, and in the place of secret Santa gifts. Children also showed up with bags full of toys, as they did what they could to give back.

“I came in with toys today because I asked for money, instead of gifts, for my birthday party, so I could buy toys for other kids,” says nine-year-old Elle.

The toys that are donated appear under the Christmas trees of 4,000 children in HRM. These toys are given to children who may otherwise have little, or nothing to open on Christmas morning. There were over 9,000 toys donated during the toy drive with hundreds of dollars also collected through cash and gift cards.

“We’ve been doing this for 17 years, and I love to see the families who have made the toy drive a tradition and have been coming since their little ones were three months old,” remarks Moya Farrell, a host from the C100 Breakfast Club. “The ones that stand out the most, are the family stories that we hear about a parent who may have needed the services of The Salvation Army when they were younger, and how they’re giving back to the community. “

The Salvation Army wants to thank Cineplex Cinemas, C100 and PODS, as well as everyone who brought in an unwrapped toy this Christmas season.
