Food Drive Friday is happening this Friday July 27th during the Weekend of Mayhem atWestern Speedway.

Join The Salvation Army’s fight to help alleviate hunger in the community by making a donation to the Stan Hagen Centre for Families Emergency Food Bank. Staff and Volunteers will be at Western Speedway’s main gate on Friday before the race accepting both fresh and non-perishable food items.

Much needed items include:
> Kitchen staples (soup, pasta, coffee, tea, sugar, etc)
> Canned goods (fruit, veggies, meats etc.)

Big thanks to Vancouver Island Charity Riders!  Because of your donation, The Salvation Army is able to send two Victoria area kids to Camp Sunrise!  In addition, through many other generous donations, another 36 Victoria area kids are able to enjoy camp this summer too.

The Stan Hagen Centre for families is thrilled that they are able to provide 38 local kids with an exciting and stimulating camping experience on the Sunshine Coast.

THANK YOU to the greater Victoria community for participating in the 2nd annual Breaking Down Barriers Work Boot Drive between June 9th – 30th at Capital Iron.

The 2012 work boot drive brought in over 35 pairs of used work boots which will be given out to clients who are returning to work or who need them to continue to work.

Time to replace the Beacon Bus.

For 15 years, the Beacon Bus has been critical in serving both The Salvation Army’s community programming and the local emergency management network.

The Salvation Army has become very aware of the depreciating state of the Beacon Bus and has made replacing it a top priority. Our goal is to have the new vehicle in place by Christmas in order to better serve the local community.

Everyone is invited to come out and celebrate summer, meet their neighbours and enjoy friendship and community during an afternoon full of fun activities and celebration.

Breaking Down Barriers.

The 2nd Annual Breaking Down Barriers Work Boot Drive is kicking off on Saturday, June 9th at Capital Iron!

The Salvation Army will be on site with 100.3 the Q to launch this 3 week long campaign between 11am – 3pm.

With every pair of gently used CSA approved work boots donated, Capital Iron will discount a new pair of work boots by 20%, this is in addition to the discounts provided by participating suppliers including Magnum PRO and Timberland Boots.

700+ attend post parade BBQ.

The rain didn’t stop the fun as over 700 people joined The Salvation Army for lunch at the post-parade BBQ in the parking lot of the Addictions & Rehabilitation Centre on the corner of Yates and Wharf Street.

The Westsong Community Church’s band performed an outdoor concert for the public as they enjoyed a BBQ lunch. In addition to the smokies on the grill, volunteers and staff served Mexican rice and pork chops donated by Puerto Vallarta Amigos.

125 years ago, The Salvation Army’s work began inVictoria. Our first church service was held in an abandoned skating rink on Fort St.between Douglas and Blanshard on June 25th, 1887.

The 10th annual Quadra Village Day was held on Saturday, May 12th. This fun-filled event featured a pancake breakfast, two stages of entertainment, fun activities and interesting information about the vibrant Hillside Quadra Community.

Located right in the heart of Quadra Village is The Stan Hagen Centre for Families. Staff and volunteers from the centre were on hand helping kids make Mother’s Day crafts, apply Sally Ann tattoos and answer any questions about the programs and services offered by the facility.
