Valley First and its community program Feed The Valley has been an integral support to The Salvation Army Community Food Bank in Penticton for more than five years.  Almost 65,000 pounds of food has been collected and more than $943,000 has been donated since the launch of the Feed The Valley program in March 2010.

This year’s 10,000 Tonight Food Drive almost reached 11,000 cans of collected goods!

Students from Penticton and Princess Margaret secondary schools collected a combined total of 10,822 non-perishable food items, plus cash donations, for The Salvation Army food bank in their annual door-to-door canvass.

The Fresh from the Farm program in Penticton, British Columbia is loading up with fresh fruit by engaging over 30 youth in the summer effort.  McCains and Food Banks Canada granted the Penticton Salvation Army $5,000 to cover the cost of gas, canning supplies, and food safe for all of the young participants of this program.

This unique experience is a collaboration between The Salvation Army Penticton and the First Baptist Church.

Apricot season is here!

Take a look at the efforts taking place during apricot season in Penticton as this ministry has been asked to be a feature program during local events happening in partnership with Food Banks Canada, Organics Week and bake sales. 

Organic Orchardist, Ted Abbott, of Abbott Acres in Keremeos, gave his time and resources as they donated 400 lbs. of organic apricots for use in the Salvation Army Community Kitchen teaching, canning, jamming and dehydrating methods.

Blessings of the Harvest Season

The Salvation Army Penticton recently received a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan to create a child care centre at our new Community Kitchen.

The Community Kitchen, which operates out of The Salvation Army Church at 2469 South Main in Penticton, is a place for volunteer mentors and participants to come together to teach and learn new cooking / preserving methods, household budgeting along with nutritional solutions for a well balanced meal.
