Salvation Army Assists Evacuees of Saskatchewan Wildfires


As of Wednesday, July 1, there are 110 active wildfires burning in Saskatchewan.

Smoky conditions continue to make fire suppression efforts difficult, forcing more than 4,000 people to evacuate several northern communities.

In response to the extreme and persisting wildfires, The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Personnel are on hand providing:

  • food services to 570 evacuees at Saskatoon’s Reception Centre, which includes three meals a day and snacks.
  • sandwiches, snacks, drinks to hundreds of evacuees in Regina.

Salvation Army Needs Help After Thrift Store Fire


Halifax – The Salvation Army is pleading for donations after it lost the entire stock of a south-end thrift store when the adjacent restaurant caught fire.

The Salvation Army Thrift Store at 5280 Green Street sustained major smoke and water damage after a blaze erupted at the restaurant next door on Saturday.

Salvation Army Teams Undertake Wildfire Response in Colorado


Salvation Army teams are providing relief and support services to residents of the Waldo Canyon area of Colorado, following a wildfire that President Barack Obama described as causing ‘enormous devastation’. The blaze, considered to be part of the worst fire season in the state’s history, has destroyed almost 18,000 acres since it began on 23 June. Hundreds of homes have been razed and tens of thousands of people evacuated.

Salvation Army Sorting Centre Damaged by Fire


A fire at the Salvation Army sorting centre is being investigated after various items caught fire early Monday morning outside of the building and caused it to ignite.

Moose Jaw Police service and Moose Jaw Fire Department responded to a fire at the centre on the 600 block of High Street West at 3:20 a.m. on Monday.

Clothing, mattresses and assorted junk had caught fire outside of the building under suspicious circumstances.

Salvation Army Provides Support to Communities Affected by Wildfires in Texas


Salvation Army mobile feeding units are providing round-the-clock assistance to firefighters battling wildfires in Texas, U.S. The worst fires are still burning in Bastrop County, about 30 miles east of the state’s capital city, Austin. Preparations Being Made To Receive Fire Evacuees From Northern Ontario


The Salvation Army in the Peel Region in partnership with Peel Region officials and the Red Cross are preparing to receive 1800 to 2000 evacuees from various communities in Northern Ontario. The forest fire evacuees are expected to arrive within the next 12 hours. Salvation Army Aids Victims of Sutton Fire


A fire broke out at a townhouse complex in Sutton, Ont., just over an hour northeast of Toronto, forcing more than 100 people out of their homes early Monday.

Salvation Army personnel were immediately on the scene providing refreshments and support.

Emergency efforts are being coordinated by The Salvation Army through the Sutton Youth Shelter at 20898 Dalton Rd., where donations of food, clothing and personal items will be accepted.
