Every year thousands of immigrants come to Canada bringing their own skills, knowledge, religion and cultural norms. They all yearn to strengthen Canada’s international character, but in moving to a new land, they face key challenges.

Finding suitable employment and affordable housing are some of the most significant concerns for the newcomer. Across the country The Salvation Army provides general information on employment, makes referrals to job-search workshops, helps complete forms, and assists with housing.

If English isn’t an immigrant’s first language something as simple as asking for directions or accessing services seems impossible. English as a Second Language (ESL) and English conversation classes make life easier and goals attainable.

On a deeper level, The Salvation Army offers reassurance and empathy. It is hard to comprehend how vital this is until you are without it.
