Salvation Army worker smiling at children who are smiling back

The Salvation Army is one of the world’s largest social services agencies, outside of government and those sponsored by the United Nations. It has grown to be so large because of its commitment to work with disadvantaged people and those discarded by society to improve their lives and to offer them hope of a better future.

The Salvation Army is a church, but wherever it is found it is also active as a social services and relief agency. It has accepted this role not only because of the social conscience the Army inherited from its origins in Victorian England, but also in obedience to Christ’s injunction to love one’s neighbour.

We invite you to get to know the Army in your area better, and to see what it is doing to make a difference in your community by helping to change the lives of people around you.

Across Canada and around the world The Salvation Army is at work helping families and individuals who are victims of circumstance and, perhaps, their own actions. By being supportive and non-judgmental, the Army can be effective in providing not only for a person’s immediate needs, but in helping them to find their way to a more secure and fulfilling life.
