Central United Church in St. Thomas filled with music on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in an effort to pay tribute to first responders in the area. Hosted by The Salvation Army, the free concert featured the York Regional Police Male Chorus as well as Venabrass, an ensemble of Salvation Army musicians.

In the past, plaques have been given to the first responder agencies at a Sunday service, but this year the goal was to go a step further.  Captain Mark Hall, of the St. Thomas Salvation Army, says they have been working closely with the various partner agencies in recent years and he wanted to show them how much the community appreciates what they do.

Divisional Director of Emergency & Disaster Services, Perron Goodyear, spoke about the recent RCMP tragedy in Moncton NB which served to remind those in attendance about the sacrifice made, all too often, by those in uniform.  It was particularly poignant as representatives from the local RCMP stood to be acknowledged by the crowd.

“The Salvation Army is honoured to stand shoulder to shoulder with our first responders and to support them as they work every day to keep our communities safe”, said Goodyear.
