The Salvation Army prepares for 1,000 evacuated James Bay residents in Stratford

April 26, 2008 – The evacuation of residents from the flooded James Bay area has prompted an emergency response by The Salvation Army in Stratford. 1,000 residents are expected to arrive in Stratford on Sunday April 27th. The Salvation Army is preparing their mobile emergency response units in anticipation of assisting those who are arriving by providing meals and other practical support.

“We have been asked to provide meals and we have utilized the resources of The Salvation Army – we are prepared to respond with practical help during this time of displacement for the affected residents.” Says Captain Pam Goodyear.

The Salvation Army continues working with other agencies and city officials to ensure that all needs of the evacuees are being met. Given the nature of this response, monetary donations would be gratefully accepted online at SalvationArmy.ca/donate
