Monday, December 18th marks a special day for The Salvation Army as Mayor John Tory proclaims December 18th – December 25th, 2017 as Salvation Army Week. At 10:00 a.m. at the Courtesy Flag Pole at Toronto City Hall, Spokesperson, Jeff Robertson read the proclamation on behalf of the City of Toronto. As the Kettle band played festive music in the background, Major John P. Murray, Territorial Secretary of Public Relations and Development raised the ‘Giving Hope Today’ flag to commemorate this special occasion.

The start of this week gives The Salvation Army an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the work and dedication of the volunteers and donors who have helped the organization continue their work for over 135 years in Canada. At the same time, this final week before Christmas is especially crucial for The Salvation Army’s fundraising efforts. Poverty remains a growing issue in the province of Ontario with nearly 500,000 people turning to food banks for assistance in the last year. To help alleviate this, The Salvation Army has set a $3 million Christmas Kettle goal in the Greater Toronto Area to assist local families and individuals in need.

Those who would like to donate to a Salvation Army Christmas Kettle can now do so in three ways!

1) In person at a Salvation Army Christmas Kettle location. Did you know that there are over 400 kettle locations across the GTA?

2) Online at FillTheKettle.com

3) Or, on your smartphone through the ‘Salvation Army Kettle’ app

There are only five more days until our Christmas Kettle Campaign ends and we encourage those who are able to help, to give what they can. Together, we can help end hunger and poverty, one person at a time.
