From Salsa and Tango dancers to dancing mascots, The Salvation Army’s Ontario Central-East Division officially kicked-off their annual Toy Mountain Campaign with CTV last Friday. Held at Yonge and Dundas Square in Downtown Toronto, Christmas in the Square invited community members to join The Salvation Army to celebrate the holiday season with music, sing-a-longs and hot chocolate.

As the air filled with music from the Kettle Band and other various performers, the cast from “Bat Out of Hell The Musical” made an appearance to donate over $400.00 worth of toys. Toys donated to Toy Mountain are distributed to communities across the Greater Toronto Area to assist local families in need during Christmas. Last year, over 30,000 families were helped through this annual holiday toy drive.

2017 marks the 22nd anniversary of Toy Mountain and we are excited to help bring smiles to children’s faces this Christmas. Our Toy Mountain goal this year is 150,000 toys and getting involved is easy! You can make a contribution on-line at SalvationArmy.ca and designate your gift to Toy Mountain, bring an unwrapped gift and drop it off at one of our many drop-off locations or even host your own toy drive.

We would also like to give special thanks to our Toy Mountain vendors and partners such as Rice Krispies, Krispy Kreme, Pizza Pizza, Toronto Area Ford Dealers, Saputo, Best Buy and Marshalls for coming out and supporting this great event.

If you were unable to make it out to Christmas in the Square last week, you can check out our photos here or our Facebook live here.
