The Salvation Army partners with “Girls on the Run”

The Salvation Army has partnered with the Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run is a life-changing after school program for 3rd through 8th grade girls. The highly interactive curriculum combines self-esteem enhancing lessons with uplifting workouts armed to develop the whole girl; her physical, mental, emotional and social self. Young girls are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement, and a foundation in team building to help them become strong, contented and self-confident women. Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program that uses the power of running to help preteen girls ages 8-12 develop self respect and a healthy lifestyle.

Their curricula addresses the development of the whole girl. Their curricula includes their participation in community work and their charity of choice is The Salvation Army. They will be hosting a food drive with all proceeds benefitting the food banks of The Salvation Army.

The program offers experiential learning through workouts, games and activities. At the end of their 9 week training program they will come together and celebrate their accomplishment on June 6th and participate in a 5km walk/run at Downsview Park at 10:00 am.
