As summer hits, local food banks are faced with critical shortages.

Summer is officially here and many of us are thinking of hitting the beach. However, many Maritimers in need are wondering where the next meal is coming from as food banks face critical shortages.

Captain Jamie Locke says, “With the warmer weather, we begin to think about summer vacations, community events and family barbeques. Let’s be sure not to forget that food banks continue to need our support during the summer months.”

This summer as you head to the grocery store for fresh fruit, juice, or food for the grill, please keep in mind your neighbour in need and non-perishable goods to your local food bank.

Poeple struggling to make ends meet often forgo purchasing daily care items in order to feed their family. Toiletries such as toothpaste, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, and soap are often in short supply. These basic items go a long way in offering a sense of dignity for those most in need.

Your generous donations are essential to the work of The Salvation Army. To make an impact in your community, please drop off new and unopened toiletries or non-perishable food items to your local Salvation Army.
