MP Andy Fillmore, Cyril Lunney, Captain Elaine Locke and athletes from Saint Mary’s University and Mount Saint Vincent University participated in oversized and undersized kettle games as part of CTV’s kick off for The Salvation Army’s biggest annual fundraising campaign. The Canada-wide Kettle Campaign begins today and runs until December 23rd.

With big feet, little bikes and a huge iconic red kettle, three teams of two braved winter like temperatures to draw awareness to this important campaign. The teams participated in three games which involved tossing gold coins into a huge kettle, navigating their way to a Christmas tree on little bikes with gifts, and marching to the tree on Glow Promotions big feet by the Halifax Hydrostone Market.

You can help boost the kettle campaign by finding one of The Salvation Army’s iconic red kettles in various stores across the Maritimes between now and December 23rd, take a selfie beside it then share your photo via Instagram using the hashtag #findakettle. Don’t carry cash? Make a donation online, visit fillthekettle.ca or call 1-800-Sal-Army (725-2769).

Nationally, The Salvation Army exceeded its $21 million goal for the kettle campaign last year, raising $23.5 million. In the Maritimes, over 200 kettles collected just under $1.9 million in 2016. Funds raised from the kettles go back into programs such as food banks, shelters, after school programs, addiction rehabilitation services, and emergency and disaster response services across the Maritimes.
