Thank you to our  many  corporate partners  who graciously donate their time, money and resources to assisting those who need it most.  This month we would like to highlight three supporters who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to address key areas of need in their communities.

Sportwheels, Energy 103.5 and The Salvation Army are celebrating their sixth year partnering  to bring the joy of riding a bike to underprivileged children in the Halifax Regional Municipality. IMG_1364 Edit

“One of our missions is to try to reduce the cost of entry for children into sports and physical activity,” says Jeff Mayhew, owner of Sportwheels.  “This year we received over 100 bikes that we were able to refurbish and give back to the community.”

A long-time supporter of The Salvation Army, Investors Group recently donated $3000 to support the work of the Community Response Unit (CRU).  The Community Response Unit (CRU) is a multi-purpose vehicle that serves as a mobile canteen for the Division’s Emergency Disaster Services. It gets called into action when crises strike around the Maritime region – such as fires and floods – and also serves the most vulnerable throughout the winter months by providing meals for individuals living on the street.   For its part, Investors Group has supported the Halifax CRU for the past nine years. This year’s cheque brings the company’s total contribution to the CRU to over $39,000.IMG_3259

Each year MOLLY MAID participates in a national Christmas in July food drive to help stock emptied food bank shelves. Food Banks Canada states that over one-third of those needing assistance are children, and that the need for donations increase in the summer months when kids are home from school.  During Christmas in July, MOLLY MAID clients are encouraged to fill up pink bags with non-perishable food items to be donated to local Salvation Army food banks.  Franchises across the country have signed up to participate in the food drive and worked hard to collect as many monetary and non-perishable food donations as possible.

We thank these, and all of our corporate partners for being a transformative power in our communities.  Together, we can make a difference in the lives of people today, and for generations to come.   IMG_3211
