Majors Doug and Jean Hefford were installed as the new Divisional leaders of The Salvation Army, Maritime Division, in a ceremony at Halifax Citadel Community Church on Sunday.

Major Doug Hefford assumes the role of Divisional Commander in the Maritimes, overseeing The Salvation Army in 27 units spread throughout the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Major Jean Hefford was installed as the Divisional Director of Women’s Ministries.

“We are excited to be in the Maritime Division and look forward to our ministry here,” Major Doug Hefford said. “We count it a real privilege to partner with the fine staff at Divisional Headquarters and serve the good folk in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. We plan to visit every ministry unit as soon as possible, to get to know the officers and employees and work hard to make a difference in the lives and ministry of others.”

The Heffords were installed by Commissioners Brian and Rosalie Peddle, Territorial leaders of The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda, and former Divisional leaders here in the Maritimes themselves.

The evening included music from the Halifax Citadel Band and Halifax Citadel Songsters, Divisional greetings from representatives for soldiers, officers, advisory board members and junior soldiers in the region and concluded with a reception.

Prior to arriving in Halifax, the Heffords worked at Territorial Headquarters in Toronto, Doug in the Personnel Services Department and Jean as the Adult Ministries Secretary. Originally from Newfoundland, the Heffords have been officers in The Army for 40 years, serving exclusively in Newfoundland and Ontario up to this appointment. They have served as a Corps Officer in numerous locations, including Mount Pearl, N.L., Corner Brook, N.L., Kitchener, Ont. and Mississauga, Ont., served as Divisional Youth Secretaries in both Newfoundland and Toronto and spent two years working at the College For Officer Training in Toronto.
