Scotian Glen Camp Schools all around the Maritimes are closing their doors for another academic year, which means one thing: it’s vacation time.

For many children in our region, that means a trip to The Salvation Army’s Scotian Glen Camp in Thorburn, NS. Situated on the banks of the Sutherland River, Scotian Glen offers campers a number of fun summer activities, including swimming, hiking, canoeing, archery, horseshoes, volleyball, and more.

The camping season kicks off next week with the first session of Holiday Camp. Designed for children aged 7-12, there will be four straight weeks of holiday camp offered throughout the month of July.

Major Wanda Vincent, the Divisional Youth Secretary, is entering her third consecutive year at Scotian Glen. She says her team is getting excited with camp just around the corner.

“They’re getting really wired actually,” she says, “with all of the last-minute decorating and preparing and making sure that everything is in place for the schedule. It’s going really, really well and now that we have sunshine, it just generates an even more eager atmosphere.”

Over 400 children attended holiday camp at Scotian Glen last year. Major Vincent says that those in attendance this year can expect a full schedule of summer activities.

“They can look forward to a fun-filled week with a fabulous camping program that contains every activity you could look forward to at a camp.”

And holiday camp is just the beginning. Scotian Glen stays busy all summer long with other programs through the month of August, including mom and tots camp and music camp.

Scotian Glen is an accredited member of the Camping Association of Nova Scotia. It is largely funded by the community through The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal. To support Red Shield, please click here
