The Salvation Army has once again partnered with Molly Maid for their Christmas in July food drive program. The program aims to give food bank shelves a much needed boost during difficult summer months.

During ‘Christmas in July’, clients are encouraged to fill pink Molly Maid bags with non-perishables when receiving cleaning. Molly Maid locations are then paired with local food banks to put the donated food to use.

Here in the Maritimes, the food is already beginning to roll in. Community and Family Services in Halifax has been paired with their local Molly Maid location, and last week they received their first donation of more than 25 bags of food.

“We are pleased to once again partner with Molly Maid for the Christmas in July program,” says Major Brenda Bungay, Executive Director of Halifax Community and Family Services. “Food drives like this one help to support food banks and generate awareness during the summer months when these programs are often overlooked. I would like to thank Molly Maid’s clients for their contributions.”

The drive will continue to run into July.

This annual promotion has been a great success in recent years. In 2009, Christmas in July collected 29,200 pounds of food across the country.
