BBQ at Divisional Headquarters in Halifax

People pick up their lunch, and some information on the Dignity Project, at a barbecue at Divisional Headquarters in Halifax.

As Dignity Month wraps up this week, we’ll look back at just a couple of the many events that took place across the region to raise money and awareness about the Dignity Project.

One of the many initiatives that Salvation Army locations across the Maritimes did in the month of May was a fundraising meal. Just a couple of examples took place at opposite ends of the region.

In Halifax, Divisional Headquarters held a barbecue during a Friday lunch hour at its Bayers Road office complex. With help from staff, volunteers and a mobile canteen from Emergency Disaster Services, the team sold hamburgers and hot dogs and raised over $750 for the Dignity Project.

Meanwhile, Thanksgiving may be months away, but turkey was on the menu in Woodstock. The Royal Canadian Legion in the New Brunswick border town hosted a turkey dinner with all proceeds being donated to the local Salvation Army corps. More than 250 people showed up for the event, raising just over $2,000 for the Dignity Project.

Dignity Month may be wrapping up, but poverty impacts millions of Canadian lives 365 days a year. Visit the Dignity Project website to learn more, join the initiative or donate.
