The Salvation Army is proud to present, the 5th Annual Backpack & School Supply Drive running from July 14th through to September 11th.   The goal of the effort, in partnership with BC Chiropractic Association, Staples, Fitness Town, Canadian Bible Society, Salvation Army Thrift Stores, Starbucks along with media sponsors, Breakfast Television, OMNI, CKNW and 24 Hours, is to raise funds and school supplies for 5000+ kids in need throughout the Province as they begin a new school year.

The need:

Can you remember arriving for the first day of the school year, sitting down at your desk with your brand new pencils, crayons, notepads and a fancy new backpack, and feeling proud to have entered the next grade fully equipped to succeed?

Each September should present every child with a fresh start to a successful school year. Unfortunately, there are many families who simply can’t afford the steep cost of purchasing a long list of required school supplies for their children.

“Once again we, at The Salvation Army, are excited to be able to help low income families with the high cost of going back to school. What started out as a small project of distributing backpacks to 200 homes in one local community has grown to distributing over 5000 to kids throughout the whole province of BC through our Annual Backpack & School Supply Drive. Thank you to everyone who helps make this possible because we believe in giving hope today for our heroes of the future,” shares Major Russ Holland, Executive Director for The Salvation Army Vancouver and Community Services.

What we do:

Within the last few years The Salvation Army has seen an increase in demand with the amount of families coming to The Salvation Army for support, especially during this time of year.

The Salvation Army aims to provide children throughout British Columbia with the necessary tools needed in order to have a successful year – as accomplished through both in kind and monetary donations.

As each child heads back to school in September, they will be outfitted with a new backpack and school supplies as facilitated by The Salvation Army.

Ways to help:

  1. Drop off new school supplies and backpacks at Salvation Army (SANRO) Thrift Stores, Fitness Town locations and participating Starbucks locations.
  2. Make a financial donation to the campaign at participating Staples locations and/or by texting “GIVEBC” to 45678 and $5 will be added to your monthly mobile bill.
