The Salvation Army is proud to present once again, the annual Backpack & School Supply Drive running from July 15th through until September 11th.   The goal of the effort, in partnership with BC Chiropractic Association, Staples, Fitness Town, Canadian Bible Society, Starbucks and along with media sponsors, CKNW and 24 Hours, is to raise funds and school supplies for 5000 kids in need throughout the Province as they begin a new school year .

The need:
Can you remember arriving for the first day of the school year, sitting down at your desk with your brand new pencils, crayons, notepads and a fancy new backpack, and feeling proud to have entered the next grade fully equipped to succeed?

Each September should present every child with a fresh start to a successful school year. Unfortunately, there are many families who simply can’t afford the steep cost of purchasing a long list of required school supplies for their children.

“What a pleasure it is for us to be able to supply quality school supplies and backpacks to over 5000 children in British Columbia.  For some families the cost of sending their kids back to school can be a tremendous burden.  It is nice to know that so many young kids will be heading back to their classrooms all decked out for another season with their held high with their new gear,” says Major Russ Holland, Executive Director for The Salvation Army Vancouver and Community Services.

What we do:
Within the last few years The Salvation Army has seen an increase in demand with the amount of families coming to The Salvation Army for support, especially during this time of year.  The Salvation Army aims to provide children throughout British Columbia with the necessary tools needed in order to have a successful year – as accomplished through both in kind and monetary donations.

As each child heads back to school in September, they will be outfitted with a backpack and school supplies as facilitated by The Salvation Army.

Ways to help:
Drop off new school supplies and backpacks at participating FitnessTown and Starbucks locations.
Make a financial donation to the campaign at participating Staples locations and by texting “GIVEBC” to 45678 and $5 will be added to their monthly mobile bill.
