Thanks to the work being done by The Salvation Army, people are cooking up successful careers in the hospitality industry by participating in the Cascade Culinary Arts School.

The Sally Ann’s 12 month program provides individuals with the training needed to find a job as a professional cook in the evergrowing food service

industry through hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, catering companies, institutions, hospitals and care facilities. Graduates from the program master the fundamentals of cooking and are qualified to write the Professional Cook 1 Industry Training Authority exam.

Cascade Culinary Arts program features small class sizes, an industry standard curriculum and daily hands-on practice for its students.  Trainees operate in a live kitchen, and most of the school day is spent creating meals for guests at functions booked through the Cascade convention centre and residents of Cascade Court.

The chef training instructors are certified Red Seal chefs with extensive training and more than 25 years of wide-ranging experience.  Many Cascade students have advanced to receive their Red Seal, with employers regularly hiring graduates; further on, the program has one of the highest job placement rates in B.C. being accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA).  The program’s students can apply for funding through Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, or to receive government student loans. Individuals already employed in the food service industry can take Professional Cook 1 and Professional Cook 2 training without leaving their jobs.
