Will Low-Cost Form of Voice Mail Restore Dignity?

People with no phone or access to voice mail can use a new system being offered in Regina.

The Salvation Army and the Carmichael Outreach Centre have set up a low-cost form of voice mail where people get a number for their voice mail account, and record a greeting.

They can provide that number to others, such as potential employers and doctor’s offices, as a place to leave a message. The client can access the voice mail box from a pay phone or the phone of a friend.

The system only records messages, but can be useful for people who don’t want to miss important calls.

Will this service restore dignity for women fleeing abuse, homeless seeking healthcare or housing and all others in society who have had their dignity impaired?

Will people use it to change their lives?
