Things ‘worse,’ Salvation Army says
A year has passed since The Salvation Army, representing some churches in southwestern Nova Scotia, wrote a letter to Premier Darrell Dexter expressing its concern about the impact of the loss of the Yarmouth ferry.
Twelve months later, a local pastor who played a significant role in writing that letter on behalf of the Yarmouth County Protestant Ministerial, says the economic situation – along with the problems stemming from it – seems to have grown more serious.
“I think we are worse off,” said Major Peter Rowe of the Salvation Army. “The number of clients that we are assisting on a daily basis continues to increase. The number of new families that never needed assistance before continues to increase.”
The growth in the number of people needing help – not just in the Yarmouth area, but also in Shelburne County – was evident when the Salvation Army conducted its recent Christmas programs, he said
