Imagine using one can of food as a catalyst for change?

Canstruction, Inc. is a registered nonprofit organization that holds annual design-and-build competitions to construct fantastic, giant sized, structures made entirely out of canned food.

In cities across the country, structures are built, winners declared, and creations go on view to the general public as giant art exhibits. At the close of the competition all of the structures are dismantled and food used in the creations is donated to local food banks, including The Salvation Army, for distribution.

According to Food Banks Canada, each month close to 900,000 Canadians are assisted by food banks, and 93,000 of them are accessing them for the first time.

The latest report from The Salvation Army, “Feeding Canada’s Families: A Report on Salvation Army Food Services,” revealed that more and more families are turning to Salvation Army food programs and centres for assistance.
