The Salvation Army’s thrift store in south-end Halifax will be joining forces with a neighbouring Sobeys outlet Saturday to host a one-day clothing drive to help the Sally Ann shop recover from fire damage.

A truck and collection workers will be in the grocery store’s Queen Street parking lot from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to accept donations of clothes and housewares.

The Salvation Army’s shop at 5280 Green St. sustained major smoke and water damage after an October fire hit an adjacent restaurant after store hours.

Ciolfi, the Salvation Army’s product sourcing manager for Eastern Canada who is based in Toronto, said his organization hopes to reopen its store by the end of the month or early in January.

The store’s closure came at a time when the Salvation Army was preparing to help the needy through the time leading to and including the holidays.

They lost their entire stock.
