Salvation Army Thrift Stores Raise Funds to Send Kids to Camp

Salvation Army Thrift Stores want you to say “YES” to helping a child experience fun, freedom and excitement at camp this summer.

For the third year in a row, Thrift Stores in Canada will collect funds in-store to help send marginalized children to camp for one week. The 2012 Send a Kid to Camp fundraiser officially kicks-off on Monday, April 2 and will run through to Saturday, May 12.

Thanks to the overwhelming support and generous donations from customers and local businesses, last year’s campaign raised a grand total of $70,400 to send 320 deserving kids to camp across Canada (at a cost of $220 per child for one week).

This year, the Salvation Army hopes to give even more children the opportunity to live out the fun, freedom, and excitement that summer camp brings.

“The sad reality is that many parents in communities across the country simply cannot afford the luxury of sending their children to camp for a week, which is why our Send a Kid to Camp fundraiser is so important,” says John Kershaw, Managing Director of The Salvation Army National Recycling Operation.

“One week at camp can be an uplifting, life-changing experience for many of these disadvantaged children. It’s a memory that will remain with them forever. They will remember fun and friends, and that they had a chance to just be a ‘kid’”.

The Send a Kid to Camp fundraiser will be hosted at 120 Thrift Stores across Canada. You can support the Salvation Army’s efforts by donating what you can to a child’s future. It costs $220 to send a child to camp for one week, but any gift you can make will be gratefully accepted.
