The season of giving is underway and Christmas is a great time to donate a little of your extra to those who don’t have enough. With this in mind, Salvation Army Thrift Stores in Central Ontario and the Niagara Region invite you to participate in their Christmas campaigns that are focused on meeting practical needs in their local communities. The ultimate goal is to bring hope and dignity to as many people as possible.

Open Your Hearts and Your Cupboards
From November 1 to December 31 each store is collecting non-perishable food items that will be given to the hungry in that local community. Donated goods are placed in a big blue bin that equals approximately two shopping carts. The campaign goal is to collect a total of 300 shopping carts between the participating stores.

Paper Kettle Campaign
Guests can donate at the cash register using cash, debit or credit cards. The name of the donor is written on a ‘paper kettle’ and displayed around the store. Donations made support the ongoing work of The Salvation Army at Christmas and in the coming year.

About the Thrift Store
With more than 200 thrift stores from coast to coast, the Salvation Army operates one of Canada’s largest national clothing recycling operations. The Salvation Army NRO exists to generate funds to support Salvation Army programs by efficiently and ethically recycling and selling donated clothing and other goods. The Army has recycled for more than 100 years.
