On Saturday, December 6, in 41 cities across Canada, approximately 16,000 runners will help change a life and support vulnerable families living in poverty.

In partnership with Running Room Ltd., The Salvation Army’s Santa Shuffle 5K Fun Run & 1K Elf Walk is designed to raise funds for Salvation Army social and community programs. Participants collect pledges from friends and family and everyone who completes the course receives an eye-catching Santa Shuffle medal.

“The Salvation Army recognizes that while the Canadian economy appears to be stable, there are thousands of people who live on the streets, skip meals so they can pay the rent, or feel the pangs of hunger on a regular basis,” says John McAlister, The Salvation Army’s National Director of Marketing and Communications. “In fact, one in 10 Canadians lives in poverty.”

Running Room logoThe Salvation Army has provided hope and dignity for more than 130 years through the generosity of donors. Last year the run raised over $500,000 to offer practical and meaningful support to assist those in need during the Christmas season and throughout the year.

“I run because I know that there’s someone out there who, if it were not for this event, wouldn’t be able to celebrate the holidays,” says Megan, a race participant. “It’s an amazing feeling when you reach the finish line, not because you’ve finished the race, but because you know that you’ve given back.”
