On January 26, more than 460,000 people, which included personnel from five Salvation Army Ministry Units, participated in The Great British Columbia ShakeOut.

The earthquake drill causes people to think about emergency preparedness and what they would do if an emergency, such as an earthquake, were to occur in the area.

The drill itself takes five minutes and assists residents with knowing what to do.

Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services

Canada is fortunate that emergency preparedness experts at all levels of government have well-organized, definitive plans, in which The Salvation Army plays an important part.
For more than 100 years Salvation Army disaster response teams have served whenever there is hardship. The service provided in the wake of the Boxing Day Tsunami and Hurricane
Katrina are examples of The Salvation Army’s timely and effective work providing disaster relief. Ready to deploy its resources at very short notice, its disaster units immediately work to reduce physical harm and help victims regain control of their lives.
