The Salvation Army is the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. The following are snapshots from media sources of The Salvation Army at work that were published between April 7-11, 2014.

Penhold, Alta.

Two people are in serious condition in hospital and dozens of others have been left homeless after a fire destroyed an apartment complex. The Salvation Army is in the area providing assistance to those who have lost their homes. Read more.

Orillia, Ont.

Tucked into a corner of a parking lot, The Salvation Army’s mobile unit opens its doors each week to families in need.

“If it weren’t for volunteers, the program would not be feasible,” says Linda Goodall, community and family services coordinator for Orillia’s Salvation Army. Read more.

Woodstock, Ont.

Woodstock’s local food bank is operated by The Salvation Army and is relied on by 400 to 600 families every month.

From April 4 to 24, Loblaws stores across Canada will take part in the Extra Helping campaign, during which time they will collect food items and monetary donations that will go directly to local food banks. Read more.
