Every year, The Salvation Army in Canada helps over 1.8 million people. The following are snapshots from media sources of The Salvation Army at work during the week of October 20.

Vernon, B.C.

For people with limited incomes, it can be challenging to put fruit and vegetables on the plate. The Salvation Army is grateful to the Vernon Farmers Market for 19,000 pounds of fresh produce to ensure people in need have a nutritious diet.

Barrie, Ont.

The Salvation Army’s annual Coats for Kids campaign is underway in Barrie. Last winter, The Salvation Army distributed 706 coats, 162 pairs of snow pants and 44 pairs of boots to vulnerable children.

Courtenay, B.C.

The new Salvation Army thrift store officially opened in Courtenay, B.C., on Thanksgiving weekend. At approximately 8,000 square feet, the new location offers customers a much larger shopping area and allows staff to place more items on the sales floor.

Northumberland County, Ont.

Christmas planning for families in need is beginning. This week volunteers stuffed envelopes with appeal letters that will go to homes and businesses in the coming days. Last year, 892 families in need were provided gifts and food.
