Salvation Army Gives Aid to Winnipeg Flood Evacuees

Winnipeg, MB – The Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) of The Salvation Army has been actively involved in providing hope, comfort and warmth to those affected by the rising floodwaters in Manitoba. At the Winnipeg Flood Evacuee Response Centre EDS Coordinator Debbie Clarke has been overseeing food preparation and delivery to those registering for flood assistance with the province of Manitoba.

“Though the number of people registering for assistance have been less than expected, it is important to these individuals and families to see that The Salvation Army is here to provide them with the necessary help, support and comfort they need at this difficult time,” states Debbie.

Each day the Emergency Disaster Services are on hand to provide hot soup, sandwiches, Tim Hortons coffee and donuts, and fresh, cool water to those finding themselves having to seek help and assistance during the spring floods. Spiritual care and counselling is also provided to those enduring the stresses of being displaced and at risk of losing all they have.

The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services has also been on hand at Morris, Manitoba assisting and providing hope and comfort to those isolated by the flooding of the Morris and Red Rivers.

Prior to the opening of the Flood Evacuee Centre, the EDS Mobile Canteens were visiting the various flood battlegrounds offering food and support to the countless volunteers working hard to keep the floodwaters at bay. Anywhere there is a need, you will find The Salvation Army on hand “Giving Hope Today”.
