Program Provides Free Lunches to Kids in Saskatoon

The Salvation Army and Potash Corp created the summer “Food on the Move” program to provide meals to children at playgrounds in Saskatoon’s core neighbourhoods.

The Salvation Army’s Les Marshall says the demand for the mobile, bag lunch program has been substantial.

“We’ve been serving about 150 meals each day. That’s a brown bag, personally packed lunch that has been prepared here at Saskatoon in our centre,” said Marshall.

Marshall says the children “Food on the Move” usually serves get lunches through a public school program during most of the year, but that program doesn’t operate in the summer months.

“Food on the Move” is in its second year and makes stops at seven different playgrounds every day.
