February 4, 2013 – Pickering, ON: Finding a good bargain and helping a good cause will be a lot easier for residents of Pickering now that a brand new Salvation Army Thrift Store has opened its doors.

The new Thrift Store is conveniently located directly across the street from the Pickering Town Centre on 1360 Kingston Road and shares a strip mall with a handful of other businesses including McDonald’s, Starbucks and Money Mart. It is the first Salvation Army Thrift Store to open in Pickering and according to Bill May,
Properties and Facilities Manager for The Salvation Army, National Recycling Operations, the timing could not be better.

“The city is bustling with growth and development and it’s a part of the GTA that we realized was not being effectively serviced by our Thrift Stores, the closest of which are located in Scarborough and Ajax,” said May.

“This new location places us in the heart of the community where we are able to serve residents that need access to Salvation Army programs and services, as well as those who want to help by donating gently-used goods or who simply want to hunt for a bargain without having to look outside their community.”

Shaney Cannon, Store Manager, is now hard at work readying the store for its grand opening celebration on February 8th from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and February, 9th from 9 a.m.to 6 p.m.

“The racks have lots of clothing and our shelves are stocked with accessories, jewelry, children’s items and toys, housewares, electronics, DVDs, CDs, books, home décor and more,” said Cannon.

“There’s something in-store for everyone in the family and for every bargain hunter. We just cannot wait for the community to come out and see what we have to offer.”

Visitors will be treated to great deals on select items, hourly draws for a FREE $10 Thrift Store gift certificate and will also receive an exclusive “Centsible Savings” card to be used at the store.

Of course, the store is also looking for donations of gently-used items and will gladly accept donations daily during store hours. Proceeds from items sold directly support services such as shelters, food banks and daycare programs in the community.

Store hours are:

Monday to Friday – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday – 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The store is closed on Sundays.
