Description

TERMS:
• Full Time / 30-35 hours per week

Responsibilities

• Connect with principals, counsellors, and social workers associated with neighbourhood Middle and Secondary Schools (South Vancouver and South Burnaby) for the purpose of identifying needs and offering appropriate supports.
• Connect with / engage pre-teens and teens by visiting local Middle and Secondary Schools, at the invitation of the staff and/or students.
• Develop specific program plans that will address identified needs of community youth
• (i.e. Red Cap, Mentoring, Lunch Talks, Bible Studies, etc.)
• Submit appropriate program proposals to Corps Council for formal SA approvals.
• Implement approved programs in cooperation with Middle and Secondary School staff.
• Seek to connect community youth (and their families) to our church youth programs and Sunday worship.
• Connect with / engage parents and siblings of youth supported through our community and church programs.
• Offer direct support to our church youth programs (which include Friday night youth – worship/Bible discussion/activities, Sunday tutoring, youth fundraising, youth retreats, etc.) through planning, assisting with leadership, and regular attendance.
• Support our Divisional Camp ministries by encouraging registrations, coordinating transportation and offering on-site supervision (where appropriate)
• Incorporate leadership development into youth programming; equipping and training youth for increasing involvement in leadership of the programs they are engaged in.
• Serve as a full member of Corps Council, as a voice for our children and youth.
• Support broader church ministries, using his/her spiritual gifts (leading worship, preaching, teaching).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1-2 years of under-graduate level studies in youth ministries, theology and/or social work
• High proficiency in written and spoken English and Mandarin
• 1-3 years cumulative experience (volunteer or employed) working with church and community youth outreaches
• Passion for and giftedness in youth ministry
• Able to affirm the Mission of The Salvation Army, along with its doctrinal statements

• A strong, mature, personal Christian commitment that is able to lead and teach from the Bible and the doctrines of the Salvation Army.
• Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check Clearance, plus completion of Salvation Army Child Abuse Training
• Valid BC Driver’s Licence (Class 4 preferred), plus clean driver’s abstract
