JOB PURPOSE:  The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists the Store Manager in the maintenance of all store operations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-Time -  22.5 hours per week (3 days) – various shifts


• The performance of the job requires continuously standing for long periods of time, frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting, kneeling and entering data for transactions.
• The performance of the job requires continuous visual monitoring.
• Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards.
• Implements store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance” based on Store Manager’s directions.
• Replenishes inventory levels based on Store Manager’s directions
• Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
• Takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc.
• Ensures in-store safety for staff and customers (e.g. Snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness dealing with volatile situations); ensures property (store) is secured at all times.
• The performance of the job requires visual monitoring and frequently working with numbers.
• He/she is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/she may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. He/she has very little input into the annual budget.
• Participate in ongoing training as provided and cooperate in the Annual Performance Evaluation.
• Performs other duties as necessary and/or as assigned.


• Police Security Clearance Certificate
• Able to function well in a team setting.
• Will have completed Grade 10.
• One year related experience in retail.
• Ability to relate to and engage marginalized people with a positive outcome perspective while remaining non-judgmental.
