This is a temporary full time position based on 28 hours per week for up to two (2) months.  Flexibility in scheduling is required - will vary from week to week between multiple locations (Mitchell and Stratford) and will include weekdays and/or Saturdays.

Normal hours of work:  as per the Thrift Store hours of operation, Monday to Saturday and includes an unpaid meal break where applicable.  The supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.

Stratford shifts are 9:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. or 9:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. with a 1-hour unpaid meal break

Mitchell shifts are 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a ½- hour unpaid meal break


Opening and closing the store.

Provide service to customers and greet them when entering the store.

Responsible for the accurate completion of all customer transactions, including cash and debit sales

Contribute to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting and pricing as directed.

Replenish inventory levels based on supervisor’s directions.

Contribute to meeting store targets by maintaining customer service standards.

Inform your supervisor of all customer complaints, comments and concerns regarding customer service, prices, merchandise, etc.

Pay particular attention to store security, by monitoring activity within the store.

Assist with store layout plans to attract customers, which include window displays and merchandise displays; ensure attractiveness of the store through “tidy maintenance”.

Handle the merchandise in a safe and organized manner; assist in stock rotation.

Maintain the proper sorting and processing of all donated goods, ensuring compliance with quality standards.

Abide by store policy and procedures.

Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, cleans spillage).

Perform other position related duties as assigned.


Completion of High School

Have a minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience.

Strong oral and written communication skills

Cash handling experience is required.

Experience with entering data for transactions

Able to stand for long periods; there is frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling.

Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver license, own vehicle and insurance,  a current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required

Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 40 pounds

Self-motivated and disciplined.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Ability to work as part of a productive team and/or independently as required.

Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
