The Shelter Worker provides a safe and secure environment for guests.

 

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Shift Work, flexibility in hours is expected, work includes evenings/overnights/days/weekends/holidays

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation Army and Ridge Meadows Ministries
  • Use a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect and empathy in the administration of policies and procedures
  • Supports, where and when possible, the efforts of all guests and co-workers
  • Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of guests
  • Maintains availability for personal, practical and moral support
  • Monitors the activities of guests and accurately records day-to-day happenings
  • Performs internal and external security checks
  • Provides safe storage and recording of prescribed medications
  • Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed
  • Coordinates guest care relating to security issues and ensures ongoing enforcement of policies
  • Involved in serving meals/snacks
  • Performs other assigned duties as required to ensure a safe and secure environment

Qualifications

  • Strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public and effective communication skills
  • Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
  • Team oriented and able to take initiative
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment and cope with stressful situations
  • Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • High standards of integrity, judgment and confidentiality
  • Strong decision making skills
  • Preference to those who have completed High School and have related experience
  • Computer and word processing ability
  • Agreeable to a flexible, non-routine schedule
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check
