The House Support Worker provides essential support to the emergency shelter clients staying at The Stevenson House.

• Part-time – 24 hours per week


• Cleaning of shelter rooms, washrooms, lounge and common areas; cleans and sets up emergency beds
• Washes, folds and keeps inventory of linen and towels; reports replacement needs to shelter supervisor
• Acts as a positive role model for clients by developing interpersonal relationships that promote dignity and respect
• Respond to emergency situations (i.e. medical conditions, dealing with client’s aggressive behaviour to ensure that no harm comes to staff, clients and/or the public). Provides support to staff as required and as requested when dealing with an emergency situation. Reports problems to the supervisor or case worker
• Monitors access to the building
• Ensures that information on staff, clients residents is handled in a confidential manner
• Maintains the necessary reports and ensures that all required documentation is accurate and complete
• Performs basic building maintenance (i.e. changing light bulbs). Collects and disposes of refuse and maintains clean refuse areas; performs spot and accidental cleaning as required. Record maintenance needs in maintenance log
• Ensures that the House rules are followed and ensure health and safety standards are maintained
• Ensures that education and certificates are current through training, workshops and education opportunities
• Other duties as required


• Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent; excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Non-violent crisis intervention training
• Current certification in First Aid/CPR
• Criminal Police investigation Check
• Detail oriented
