Fundraising & Awareness Events

  • Develops and/or maintains planning manuals and checklists for events
  • Plans and organizes events including, but not limited to fundraising luncheons, sponsored race vents, golf tournament,
  • Consults with members of the Public Relations team as needed to support implementation of events, e.g. promotion, printing, sponsorship, guests, web stories, etc.
  • Prepares event budgets in consultation with Director of Marketing & Communications, Director of Development and DSPRD
  • Tracks and reports on event revenues and expenses
  • Prepares post-event reports outlining successes, challenges, and areas for potential growth or change
  • Assigns event day tasks to PRD staff and advises them of their roles
  • Acts as lead event coordinator on event day
  • Maintains list of volunteer roles required for each event and a list of potential volunteers
  • Organizes mascot, displays, exhibits and signage for events



  • Maintains and distributes a Salvation Army regional Calendar of Events
  • Creates and maintains a Communications Calendar, in consultation with Director of Development
  • Consults with Public Relations Team and ministry units to gather story leads and testimonials
  • Conducts story research and interviews, writes web stories and obtains supporting photos
  • Assists in the development of communication materials as directed
  • Assists with finding story leads for direct mail newsletter
  • Drafts news releases, media advisories and public service announcements as directed
  • Assists Director of Development with other communications projects


Kettles at Work / Special Event Kettles

  • Organizes the distribution of the table top kettles to corporations in Edmonton
  • Coordinates pick-up of Kettles at Work with Edmonton Kettle Coordinator
  • Works with Edmonton Kettle Coordinator to organize kettles and volunteers for special events e.g. Festival of Carols, Edmonton Oilers Game, etc.
  • Support Edmonton Community Resource Centre and Edmonton Kettle Coordinator through the 2016 kettle campaign planning process


  • Acts as photographer / videographer at Divisional events and activities as needed
  • Other duties as required
  • Travel to Salvation Army events throughout Alberta and Norther Territories as required


  • Post-secondary education in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Event Planning or related, or equivalent work experience
  • Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Strong team player who can also work independently
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to change and respond under pressure
  • High standard of integrity, judgment and confidentiality, and an ability to model the values and standards of The Salvation Army when functioning in a representative role
  • Knowledge of Salvation Army policies, procedures, culture and programs is an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License with access to a personal vehicle for business purposes
