• Serves actively as a member of the management team for the Corps/Centre
• Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example
• Gives oversight to community ministries programs, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives
• Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients, staff and volunteers, endeavouring to assimilate them into the Body of Christ, as appropriate (including linking clients to the church family and church programs where possible)
• Provides intake services, client assessment, emergency assistance and short-term spiritual counselling for clients
• Provides direction and support to all community ministries staff so that they may develop spiritually and to ensure that they work together to achieve the purposes of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army
• Develops strategies and recommendations for staff and volunteer development, handles recruitment, orientation, performance management and terminations
• Assists the Corps Officer with ongoing strategic planning to ensure programming reflects client needs as these may evolve in our changing socioeconomic climate
• Provides input into the preparation of an operating budget for the community ministries programs and monitors/manages financial performance accordingly
• Provides input in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for Community Ministries programs
• Works with the Corps Officer to ensure that programs meet contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements
• Networks with Salvation Army, government and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program
• May engage and implement a local Emergency Response Plan, assisting with provincial/federal emergencies as required
• May coordinate marketing strategies to ensure continued Thrift Store revenue growth
• May coordinate/organize annual donation and fund raising efforts and/or special or seasonal programs (Red Shield Appeal, Christmas Kettle Campaign, Food Drives, Donation Drives, Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Community Dinners, etc.)
• May provide visibility for The Salvation Army within the community through service club participation, media relations, general public relations, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned


• The successful job applicant will have completed up to two (2) years of Community College.
• One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including, experience in a variety of social service programs, with some supervisory experience, and experience communicating orally and in writing.
• The successful applicant will hold/have:Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
