Unique fundraisers generate interest and income from people who might not otherwise give to an organization.
The following are snapshots of some creative fundraising aimed at supporting The Salvation Army and its local communities:

• Saint John, N.B. – More than 25 purses from well-known women were auctioned off. These included an original purse from the movie The Devil Wears Prada with a poster inside signed by Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt; a purse made from ostrich leather that belonged to Annette Vershuren, the former president of Home Depot Canada. It came with matching gloves and a hand-written note. Proceeds were donated to The Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope.

• Chilliwack, B.C. – Veteran gardening enthusiasts and first-time gardeners signed up for “Plant a row-grow a row,” a program to grow food for the Chilliwack Salvation Army food bank and soup kitchen.

• Kentville, N.S. – A ‘cookie walk’ raised funds for the local Salvation Army. This is a fun event where, upon entering, you make a donation, take a box and walk around the tables, filling it with the desired baked goods people have contributed.

• London, Ont. – For the past several years, 102.3 BOB FM has partnered with the Western Fair on a unique fundraising project. Backpacks are filled with great products and coupons from local companies, and then sold to visitors who attend the annual Western Fair. Partial proceeds are donated to The Salvation Army.
