On Saturday, December 7th, more than 10,000 Canadians in 39 cities from coast to coast will run or walk in the annual Salvation Army Santa Shuffle. Why? It’s an easy and fun way to raise funds that can change people’s lives.

“The Santa Shuffle is an experience that makes you feel content and proud because your efforts don’t solely benefit yourself, but others as well. By participating in the shuffle and raising funds you’re feeding many families who would otherwise not be able to enjoy a lovely Christmas dinner,” says 16-year-old Emma.

“From this run, a sense of humbleness is gained and you’re reminded of the true meaning of the holiday season; helping others,” says Emma. “If you’re looking for a way to give back to your community while experiencing a great physical challenge, then this is the perfect way to do it.”

Emma is a member of the Pickering, Ont., Power Girls Gold soccer team. On December 7 they will participate in their third annual Salvation Army Santa Shuffle. Team members and coaches say that once you’ve experienced this event, you’ll understand the real definition of charity and what it means to give back.

santa shuffle“I run because I know that there’s someone out there who, if it were not for this event, wouldn’t be able to celebrate the holidays,” says team member, Megan. “The Santa Shuffle helps people with things such as food, presents, and a place to sleep.

“It’s an amazing feeling when you reach the finish line, not because you’ve finished the race, but because you know that you’ve given back. The Santa Shuffle is a great event filled with smiles, laughs and memories. I look forward to participating again this year and for the years to come!”
