Heat waves can be dangerous and push the body beyond its limits. Those especially at risk are very young children, the elderly and the homeless.

As the summer heat grips large parts of Canada, The Salvation Army is striving to ensure the well-being of those most vulnerable. In some locations outreach teams are working extended hours offering water, sunscreen and hats. Some centres are set up as cooling stations and other Salvation Army units are distributing bottles of water at local parks.

An extreme heat alert is forecast when weather conditions suggest that the likelihood of a high level of mortality is at least 50 percent greater than what would be expected on a typical day. (Source: City of Toronto)
