The end of summer is quickly approaching, and the back-to-school season is on everyone’s minds. While families plan for a new school year, The Salvation Army offers alternatives to the often expensive extracurricular activities or daycare programs that put a strain on budgets.

A recent study by The Salvation Army  revealed that many Canadian families still struggle to make ends meet despite a rebounding economy. “Youth in Need: The Economic Challenges,” showed that since the recession began in 2008, 66 percent of Salvation Army youth programs in Canada saw an increase in demand for low-fee or free extracurricular programs and meals. Our school year programs for children continue to be more important than ever.

During the school year, The Salvation Army provides  programs for children of any age. These include:

  • After School Programs: The Salvation Army offers programs to meet the diverse needs of the population they serve such as tutoring, health education, life skills, team sports, meals, counselling and more.
  • Breakfast Programs: Salvation Army school breakfast programs are free and nutritionally balanced. This means so much to low-income parents who are often forced to choose between paying the rent and putting food on the table.
  • RED CAP Anger Management for Kids: The Salvation Army offers an anger management program geared for eight to 12 year olds.  The goal of the hour-long lunch program is to have participants learn to problem solve and positively deal with their anger.

This school year, The Salvation Army invites you to support our efforts to positively impact the lives of Canada’s most vulnerable youth.  You can make a donation here.

Your compassion and generosity makes a real difference to families in need. Thank you!
