Harry Rosen Donation Helps Those Affected by Fort McMurray Tragedy

On August 9, 2016, Larry Rosen (Chairman and CEO) of Harry Rosen Inc., Canada’s premier source of men’s fashion, was honoured by The Salvation Army for the company’s $100,000 clothing contribution to help support residents affected by the Fort McMurray fires.

“The Salvation Army is truly grateful for the generosity of Harry Rosen Inc., which will aid people in Fort McMurray as they continue to rebuild their lives,” says Major Les Marshall, Territorial Secretary for Public Relations & Development.

Donated items from Harry Rosen Inc. were directed to The Salvation Army’s National Recycling Operations (NRO) and distributed to thrift store locations.

“Funds generated from amazing donors like Harry Rosen Inc. are providing communities and neighbours in need, such as Fort McMurray, with vouchers that can be redeemed at our thrift stores nationwide, allowing people the opportunity to really choose what they need,” says Tonny Colyn, National Donations Manager for The Salvation Army’s NRO.

When the wildfire began on May 1, The Salvation Army was on the front lines serving meals, snacks and refreshments, to firefighters, police and other first responders, as they fiercely battled the stubborn fire. Once evacuees were allowed to re-enter their homes, the Army welcomed residents home with assistance and continues to work closely with other community agencies to ensure that no needs go unmet.

The Salvation Army has operated community and social programs in Fort McMurray since 1979 and will continue to be an active presence in this city.
