The Salvation Army in Victoria, B.C. recently partnered with Capital Iron, a local company, to raise awareness about the need for work boots in the community.

There are more than 100 people staying at The Salvation Army shelter. Many of them are looking for work. At the shelter there are more than 60 jobs posted and some of the higher paying positions in the construction industry have a mandatory requirement of steel-toed boots. The cost of new work boots prevents those less fortunate from considering such employment.

During the work-boot drive, more than 45 pairs of gently used boots were donated. Through the drive residents at the shelter are getting a fresh start. In addition, once gainfully employed, recipients of the donated boots get coupons for discounts on new boots.
