It was a picture perfect, hot summer day on June 7 as 156 golfers teed off at Highlands Golf Course in Edmonton for the 14th Annual Supreme Group Salvation Army Golf Classic. This year’s sold out tournament raised $234,000 toward the purchase of a new Community Response Unit (CRU) for The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) in Edmonton.

“This tournament is a lot of fun,” said Bob Gallimore, chair of the tournament committee. “We see old friends and new ones, we are fed all along the course, there are funny team photos, and it’s just a great time in support of a great cause.”

The Salvation Army wishes to extend our gratitude to John & Sally Leder and the golf tournament committee for their tireless commitment to this event. We also want to thank all the sponsors, donors and the golfers who make the tournament such a huge success.

The Salvation Army currently has four CRUs in Alberta. Three of those units were recently deployed to Fort McMurray to support fire relief efforts. The units have also responded to the Slave Lake fire, the Alberta floods and many other smaller scale events. In Edmonton, the CRU is also used for street ministry around the city.
