Giggles and the patter of running feet can be heard as soon as you enter the doors to Berkshire Citadel in Calgary. Play Café is well underway as parents and toddlers make playdough structures, experiment with glitter, and mingle with one another.

“I really look forward to coming, I actually structure my week around it,” says mother and UK native Natalie. “I don’t have a car, so having something like this within walking distance in our community has been lifesaving for me and my son.”

Natalie has been attending the Play Café since last September. It provides a place where parents and children can connect, share experiences, enjoy unstructured play, and even have a free snack!

“We started with a handful of people and now we are up to 40 families,” explains Captain Amanda Robinson, Corps Officer at Berkshire Citadel. “We see new faces every week, more dads are starting to come out and the kids have the best time!”

Play Café takes place every Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at The Salvation Army Berkshire Citadel. With new activities happening every week, Play Café is the place to be for parents with children under the age of five.
